It is midsummer, here in the far far north of mainland Scotland.

Caithness at this time of year is never truly dark. The simmer dim, or gloaming, keeps all as twilight throughout the scant hours the sun dips below the horizon. And those hours are scant indeed. Wildlife watching, even of normally shy and hidden nocturnal animals, is easy at this time of the year — it simply never gets dark enough for the wee beasties to conceal their antics.
